Well, we’re firmly into the festive season! Everywhere you look there are teams celebrating their Christmas parties, but how do you have a Christmas party when you’re a virtual office of one?
When you’re a virtual assistant it can sometimes feel like the outside world is partying on without you, but I think it’s vital to take some you-time and celebrate your year – here’s how we like to do it at VA Agency!
- Treat yourself!
When it’s just you, it might feel a bit strange to book yourself into the local brasserie to have a Christmas lunch, so why not find another why to treat yourself? You could take yourself off for a spot of pampering or for a fun afternoon doing something else that you really enjoy, or that’s a little out of the ordinary and special. The key thing is that you get yourself away from your desk and doing something that puts a smile on your face.
- Give yourself a great big pat on the back
Many of us have had to endure the bum-clenching awkwardness of a slightly squiffy CEO singling people out for praise over the mince pies, and let’s face it, it’s not something we miss about working in a conventional office! But there’s something so lovely about having your achievements recognised: make a list of 5 things you’re really proud of from the last year and really celebrate those wins – give yourself a great big pat on the back for a job well done!
- Lessons learned
On the flip side though, I’m willing to bet a few things happened over the last 12 months that you’re still beating yourself up about. It’s really important to look at those as well – what would you have liked to have gone differently this year and what are you going to do instead next year? Maybe you want to put some new working processes in place, or even out your work/life balance. Whatever it is, make sure you learn from any mistakes and then firmly draw a line under them. Onwards and upwards!
- Not so secret Santa?
Go on, go and buy yourself something fun! If you’re anything like me you’re bound to have a small something in an online shopping basket somewhere that you really want, but have been telling yourself is too frivolous to waste your money on. Well, stop resisting and click that buy button! A little frivolity never hurt anyone, and you deserve a little something that puts a smile on your face.
- Ain’t no party like a Team Zoom party!
At the end of the day, if you’re really missing out on the office party, then get your virtual network together and have a party over Zoom! Grab your nibbles, a glass of something tasty and a party hat – get everyone to bring a quiz or some other game you can play online, or just while away an hour having a lovely chat!
Whatever you choose, do make sure you do something for you, that’s really going to give you an end of year, cosy glow. You work really hard, so take your foot off the gas for a bit and enjoy the festive fun!
